Dungeons & Delvers: Escape From the Flesh Catacombs

A gorgon (Greek gorgon, not gas-breathing metal bull) named Nyria setup a lair in an old, forgotten catacomb, which she transformed into a subterranean gallery of sorts using petrified victims that she would "modify" to various degrees, including breaking them apart and bonding parts to other statues.

The PCs are her latest acquisitions.

The good news is she was slain before she had the chance to add them to her collection. Everything she'd ever petrified turned back to flesh. This includes both creatures and numerous sections of the catacombs that she'd renovated using leftover chunks of stone from her "art supplies".

The bad news is that her various art projects either died immediately or shortly thereafter. Due to Nyria’s choice of lair--a catacomb--in most cases either their souls could not pass on, or their corpses were possessed by demonic entities from the underworld.

An undead-infested catacomb is bad enough, probably even worse than if it was inhabited by just a lone gorgon, but the PCs were unconscious before they were brought there: they have no idea where they are or how to get out, and no tools to defend themselves with.

If they want to escape, they’ll need a combination of cunning and luck to literally carve their way to freedom.

This adventure is for Dungeons & Delvers: Black Book, intended for 0-level PCs (the rules were originally presented in an early issue of Appendix D, but have been reprinted here for convenience), but with minimal tweaking would also work for 1st-level PCs.

A 0-level character sheet is included as a separate PDF.

It can, of course, be modified to work with Dungeons & Dragons (I'd say 3rd and 5th Edition would be the easiest to convert to), as well as other games based on it (Dungeon Crawl Classics is an obvious choice, what with the 0-level PCs).

You can check out a playtest report by clicking here, and some of the art by clicking here.

You can see a preview of it over on DriveThruRPG.

Note: If you purchase using the PayPal Buy Now button, we will also send you a complimentary copy through DriveThruRPG. Please allow up to 24 hours for delivery, though it usually ends up being at most eight (depends on if you buy it after we've gone to bed).

You can now get a physical copy of Dungeons & Delvers: Black Book in whatever format you want!

It look a lot longer than expected, but we finally released The Jinni. As with our other monstrous classes, this one is more faithful to the mythology (so don't go in expecting elemental-themed jinn).

Dwarven Vault is our sixth 10+ Treasures volume. If you're interested in thirty dwarven magic items (including an eye that lets you shoot lasers) and nearly a dozen new bits of dungeon gear, check it out!

Just released our second adventure for A Sundered World, The Golden Spiral. If a snail-themed dungeon crawl is your oddly-specific thing, check it out!

By fan demand, we've mashed all of our 10+ Treasure volumes into one big magic item book, making it cheaper and more convenient to buy in print (which you can now do).
