#Inktober: The Bone Devil

Here's the bone devil art from Dungeons & Delvers: Red Book:

Ended up ditching the scorpion tail, since I can't really imagine how it would properly function (and sketches didn't help, either). Besides, figured it should just have a solid, skeletal theme, so went with something that looks more like a spinal column.

Venom and poisons in Dungeons & Delvers operate differently than they do in Dungeons & Dragons. Basically, they have a delay before kicking in (giving you time to knock back an antivenom or a cleric to hit you with Cleansing Touch), penalize you for quite some time (we're talking days), and deal damage over time.

For bone devil venom, it inflicts 3d6 poison damage and reduces your Constitution by 1 every 10 minutes for a period of 3d6 hours (a Constitution save negates the damage and Con loss for that instance only). If your Constitution gets reduced to -6 you immediately die, your bones reduced to a thick sludge.

They retain the ability to turn invisible, which we felt would help them observe other demons (and ambush their enemies), but scrapped stuff like teleport and major image since it didn't really make sense. Instead of wall of ice, they can conjure a wall of bones, and have a Recharging touch attack that breaks one of your bones unless you succeed on a Constitution save.
