Dungeons & Delvers: Red Book Rogue Preview
The current iteration of the Red Book rogue has been added to Dungeons & Delvers: Black Book (check the red book class previews zip file)!
Beyond the addition of a slew of new talents (over 40 not counting dual-wielding talents), this class didn't really get any major mechanical changes or additions. This wasn't terribly surprising, as Melissa's been playing a multiclass rogue for quite some time, now, and it's been going really well.
That said there have been core game changes and additions, but these have nothing to do with the rogue.
The first is being Engaged in combat. Some of the players have been asking about Opportunity Attacks. Initially I didn't want to include these due to complicating things and we mostly play "theater of the mind" style, but they make a lot of sense.
I didn't like how in 3rd and 4th Edition you could use them even if you were squaring off against a bunch of other monsters, so a big difference is that you can't normally make an opportunity attack if you're already in a fight.
This meant that a few rogue talents like Evasion and Hit And Run were updated, so if they trigger you automatically Disengage and can leg it without having to worry about getting attacked.
The second is the Bleeding condition. It's similar to Burning and Corroding, just not as drastic. It's not a rogue-only condition, either, but there are a few rogue talents that let you use and build on it. Barbarians and fighters will also get similar Exploits.
As always, let us know what you think, and if you think there's something missing or you're like to see rogues be able to do!
The first issue of The Delver, a magazine featuring fungal-themed content for both players and GMs (including an adventure in which myconids find religion), is available!
Our latest Dungeon World class, The Ranger, is now available.
Dwarven Vault is our sixth 10+ Treasures volume. If you're interested in thirty dwarven magic items (including an eye that lets you shoot lasers) and nearly a dozen new bits of dungeon gear, check it out!
By fan demand, we've mashed all of our 10+ Treasure volumes into one big magic item book, making it cheaper and more convenient to buy in print (which you can now do).
